Voice Calls over Whatsapp: A Myth or not?

As you well know that we can send text messages, video, images and recorded audio over Whatsapp to friends all over the world effortlessly. From a simple messaging app it has now grown into a mainstay for many of us to stay in touch. We can now connect with people that we have lost contact over the years if we get in a group that has those friends. It has made the world truly small.

Enter the next logical step in the service offered by Whatsapp; voice calling. You don't have to check the news for this release of Whatsapp. It is yet an unofficial release, but now it is possible to make voice calls using Whatsapp. Basically it uses the VoIP technology to make the calls and allows users to make 'free' calls. To elaborate it uses the internet to make your voice calls, basically free calls anywhere in the world! We think that Whatsapp knew that introducing such a feature would cause problems with the telecom operators in some regions. So it’s no surprise it’s already ruffled feathers in the UAE.

According to emirates247.com the new Whatsapp feature is being blocked by the major telecoms in UAE. Sources say that just hours after this feature was launched, the UAE telecoms scrambled the service. VoIP services can only be offered by licensed telecoms in UAE viz. Etisalat and Du. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) issued a statement about the use of VoIP in the UAE: "VoIP services are still a prerogative of the licensed providers who reserve the right to provide such services through their networks. Companies wishing to offer such services must co-ordinate with the licensed telecom providers in the UAE."

So here is the quandary. If the new calling service has been scrambled, it will take some time to affect all the users in UAE. However according to rumors, those users who have already installed the new feature, might be able to continue using it over Wi-Fi. Also Du users are saying that the service is working without any problems.

None of the parties involved have given us an official comment on the situation.

Bad Marketing Is The Cause Of The Doom Of Google Glass?

Now I don’t know whether the following excerpt from a Google executive will surprise you, but I was. Teller said, “Google Glass Explorer is a program which tops as one of our biggest endeavors. However, what did not go right is our allowance and giving more than the necessary attention for the same.\"

The Key misunderstanding which lead to the apparent failure of Google Glass:

“It all started with the wrong perception of people towards Google Glass. People perceived Google Glass as Google\'s final product. However, in reality, Google was just testing a prototype,” said Teller.

\"We should have communicated in a better way. Also we could have prevented Google Glass from entering a loud conversation which was not meant to be.”

A year does make a difference. This is well supported by the fact that March 2014 saw marketers expressing much interest over brands like Kenneth Cole and The Weather Channel, who were responsible for Google Glass advertising. In 2015, Google Glass merely remains a footnote in tech history.

Another hot talk-

Talks regarding Google\'s self-driving car also circulated the tech corridors. This received greater attention when the ride-sharing war between Uber and Lyft this week received similar attention,

\"If you can make a car which secures a person during every possible situation, million lives could be saved every year. Additionally it would also save $1 trillion equivalent of time each year\" Teller said.

However, unlike Google Glass, the company is testing out every possible scenario with self-driving cars before its official market launch. We would appreciate the fact that Google won’t repeat their mistake again.

Samsung Galaxy S6: Ready To Rise Above The Smartphone Galore?

The months-long airy rumors have finally turned to reality. And it’s not just about Samsung Galaxy S6 but accompanied by a hot brother, the Galaxy S6 Edge. The latter is said to possess a cooler and eye-catching design featuring a screen with curves on both sides.
However, the question is whether it has enough spark to allure customers from other competitors. Well, that we leave upon you to decide after reading this blog.

What does the S6 Edge have to provide?
Well, there is nothing much unique about S6 Edge that will have your eyes protrude. It has drawn many similarities from Galaxy Note Edge which debuted last fall with a one-side curve.

Limitations and not-so-awe-inspiring features:
The Note possessed versatile side screen which doubled as app launcher, occasional ruler and news scroll. When compared, the S6 version has limitations. The curves simply facilitate an ornate design element. Also there aren’t any panels to swipe through.

So why go for it? You would if you want some flamboyance to support your brag among your friends. Or perhaps if you would want to try the side clock and news scroll features.

The calling features:
You will be able to do instant calls to all your recent contacts through the swipe of your finger. The phone sides will light-up when you will receive a call and while your phone is faced down.
The phone is beautifully designed and will surely turn few heads. If you have the notion of the curves being a spoil factor for steady photos, you might consider this opinion. It just isn’t the case as the Samsung letterboxes media landscape mode prevents any photo warping.

Have You Got A Glimpse Of This New Bold Smartwatch?

The air is filled with news about leaked videos demonstrating Huawei Smartwatch in action.
1 day ahead of the Mobile World Congres Event in Spain, footage of Huawei's new smartwatch has already hit online.

A glimpse into the design of its boldness:
As per Droidlife, 2 unofficially released videos reveal the design and software functionalities of the Huawei watch.
The promotional spot sends an impressive hit despite caveats in software demonstration. It features a strong outdoorsman making his way through Chamrousse mountains in France.

Key functionalities to be expected:
In the video, it is shown that the watch monitors wearer’s heart rate as well as current outdoor temperature. It also has the ability to vocally interact with Google Now.
Another video emphasizes on the smartwatch’s design. It frequently drives back to the viewers a point that it is a device which can also be used by women. Women will be amused with a variety of interchangeable wrist strap options the watch possesses.

Expected features:
The device is to have stainless steel body making it bold enough. The challenge to promote the Huawei watch as being unisex can be a hard sell. However, the video makes quite a persuasive appeal.
Of course, the device's reception from consumers will largely depend on its price and release date — remember, the Apple Watch is coming in April.
So what do you vote for Apple Watch or this Huawei Watch? Let us know in the comments below.

A Million-Dollar Dispute Comes To End

Latest reports point out to the absolution of Microsoft and Samsung over a million dollar dispute. The dispute was over selling of android devices.
The royalty fight comes to an end:
Microsoft and Samsung seem to have absolved from a legal fight. It refers to royalty payments for android devices. However, the terms of settlement remains unheard of.
In 2014, Microsoft sued Samsung for the latter failing to make payments as per a cross-licensing agreement. This is associated with patents used in Android devices.
Samsung termed the contract as unviable after Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia's mobile division.
Reports say, “Samsung and Microsoft have willingly decided to end their legal dispute in the U.S. court and ICC arbitration. The terms of agreement remain confidential.”
It was in 2011, when the 2 companies entered a patent contract. As per this contract, Samsung agreed to compensate Microsoft as royalty payments for selling of each Android phone. As per the lawsuit, Samsung owed $6.9 million of interest.
It's still not specified about Samsung’s dues to Microsoft for each sold device. However, the total royalty payments in 2013 were $1 billion.

However, there are very little credible options when it comes to displaying digital art. However, Curioos aims to bring a platform where artists and buyers can see all the digital artwork at one place.

How does Curioos aim to do that?
Curioos is a marketplace which lets digital artists upload their work. You can even take print outs of the works you like on variety of materials. You are also allowed to buy the artwork and distribute them through the site.
Thus, it is a one-stop-shop for all artists to display, buy, distribute and gaze the amazing digital artwork. Curioos now comprises of around 3,000 artworks and 500 plus artists.

Facebook: Leading the Video Marathon!

Now the title of this blog has a lot to say. Let’s start with this- Facebook has taken a giant leap in the mobile sales sector. Mobile ad sales now account for 69% of Facebook’s advertising business.
During the 4th quarter of 2014, Facebook achieved 3.6 billion dollars in total ad sales. This was 53% higher than the previous year. The California based technology giant availed great benefits from holiday marketers. The latter were finding ways to increase retail revenues with the help of social advertisements.

How growing global user base benefitted Facebook?
The booming sales observed through Facebook’s mobile ad campaigns were favored by its rising global user base. Facebook now has around 1.4 billion active users monthly. This is a 13% hike year over year.
In terms of total revenues in 2014, Facebook received $12.5 billion. This is 58% increase than previous year.

The power of videos, you cannot ignore!
Facebook’s COO, Sheryl Sandberg, once said, “Video is one such format which marketers have been using for building emotional connection with brands.”
Facebook is also of the view that videos have greater engaging capability. This is supported by Facebook’s claim of 3 billion video views on Facebook daily.

Chasing the digital video ad dollars…
Facebook is now chasing the digital video ad dollars similar to rivals Google and Twitter. All platforms are now showing their unique skills in video capabilities to attract viewers. In the past year, Facebook came up with autoplay mechanism for brands as well as users.

Get ready for the video explosion era!
It won’t be wrong if we say that the world is experiencing a video explosion era. The credit for this explosion in video advertising goes to users who relentlessly post numerous videos.
It is a fact that sans user interest, ads would just appear as incongruous in the News Feed.

Who’s leading the digital ad industry?
Google is the leader in the digital ad industry. Facebook is the next player with its quarterly numbers showing an impressive increase.
As per eMarketer, Facebook will account for 10% of the entire digital ad sales volume this year.

An interesting fact:
As per the CEO of Socialbakers, Facebook has delivered impressive digital ad sales performance. Facebook achieved this without heavily promoting ads on Instagram whose large 300 million user base cannot be ignored.

Rezab, CEO of Socialbakers said, "Facebook made $1 billion of revenue 2 years ago. It now makes $4 billion which is impressive."

Below is a list of key numbers reminding Facebook's 4th quarter and full-year earnings:
· Out of 69% of its ad sales, Facebook’s mobile revenue was $2.5 billion in the past quarter. Mobile thus accounted for 66% of Facebook’s ad sales during 2014 Q3.
· Facebook’s mobile app is used by 745 million users daily. This is 34.5% increase YOY.
· Facebook's messenger app is used by 526 million users monthly.
· Facebook’s profits in the past year hit around $3 billion which is two times the preceding year's profits.

Control A Tesla Car From Your Apple Watch?

Well, well, well. Now here’s a piece of news which is more interesting than Justin Bieber’s Believe. (You could believe me!)

If you ever dreamt about controlling your car through a watch, then this news might cause you to holler!

Control a Tesla through your wrist!
Eleks, a developer situated in Ukraine, is working on a mechanism which will enable Tesla's "Insane Mode" right through your new Apple Watch!

The wait endures…
The mechanism is not functional yet. The Apple Watch will be available only after April. “However, a working concept showing how a watch could remote-control a Tesla is already out,” says one developer associated with the mechanism’s development.

Once available, you will be able to control certain basic functions of a Tesla Model S from your Apple Watch.

"In order to make the app functional on a real Tesla, it only requires us to add authentication. This will then redirect the app to the actual backend,’’ says the developer who wished not to be named.

The other side of the coin-
Having said all, WatchKit does have crucial limitations. The access to Apple Watch accelerometer, gyroscope, Taptic Engine and the device's built-in speaker remains a question.

The team further voiced its frustrations over limited functions, "Creating a fully functional app for Apple Watch to make it compatible with current SDK version is difficult."

However, certain rudimentary functions displayed on the app for Tesla seem exciting for owners. This includes ability to lock as well as unlock the car and turning on the headlights. Also you will be able to monitor the car’s temperature, mileage as well as battery life!

On the contrary-
If the Apple Watch mechanism becomes a hit, it could create a dent in Apple's own CarPlay mechanism before it reaching to most cars.

Whichever way, Apple wins.

What’s the difference?
We all know that Twitter has a facility for uploading videos using tools outside its network. This includes Vine short video service. Twitter purchased Vine in 2012. Vine enables exchange of private messages within individuals.
However, the new tools offer notable features which places Twitter as the fastest evolving social networking service.
Kamdar excerpts, “These tools will enhance Twitter’s performance as an advanced visual medium.”
“There is a lot of hindrance while using another apps to upload videos on Twitter.” he explains. “However, these latest tools offer convenience for uploading videos on the go.”

For example, Twitter claims that a person can add a video to a tweet with a few taps. After sending, the receiver can play the video with a single tap. Also unlike vines which allowed maximum 6 second videos, Twitter videos will be up to 30 seconds long!
